We've worked hard and carefully to curate unique, good-feeling scent experiences for you through these immersive fragrances - now that it's here to share, we just can't contain our excitement (insert a big smiley face here)!

Learn about why scent is such an emotional sense, background information on the sourcing of a couple of our fragrance ingredients and a little about headspace technology.

Why is smell such an emotional sense?

According to the Harvard Gazette:
"... neuroscience makes (it) clear. Smell and memory seem to be so closely linked because of the brain’s anatomy ... Smells are handled by the olfactory bulb, the structure in the front of the brain that sends information to the other areas of the body’s central command for further processing. Odors take a direct route to the limbic system, including the amygdala and the hippocampus, the regions related to emotion and memory. 'The olfactory signals very quickly get to the limbic system.'”

So this is why you get immediately transported back to a certain time in your life based off of a whiff of a certain scent. For example, as soon as I smell a certain laundry detergent at work in the laundry room: I'm a freshman in college again getting ready to go to a Saturday morning football game in the fall. Pretty crazy and specific, eh?

It's why a lot of bride's choose to pick out a particular fragrance for their wedding day - so every time she or her future husband smell that fragrance, or something similar, they'll be flooded with numerous joyful memories of a marvelous day.

You could say our smellers are a bit nostalgic!

What is headspace technology and how is it used in fragrance?

Headspace technology simply put captures a flower's scent at a particular, precise moment in time. It only, with fragrance, pertains to florals.

Here's how it works, according to Bon Parfumeur Paris:

"... their (flowers') fragrance is captured without them needing to be cut. A glass bell cover is placed over the flower and gas is injected. This gas will capture the flower’s scent and layer it onto a wick made from a top-secret material. This wick is then analyzed in a laboratory. The list of the perfume’s ingredients is given to perfumers to reproduce the original scent."
