    Quiet Strength Memory Box

Submitted by Barrie Tinsley in Anderson, SC, June 2015

Last year my 11 year old granddaughter lost her beloved horse, Catman. Catman was bitten by a rattle snake. After a misdiagnosis and much suffering and pain, Catman had to be put down. The child was heartbroken. I have bought Willow Tree designs for many years and had actually not thought about the lovely and apropos pieces in a long time. I was in a lovely mountain shop last week and found this box with the little girl and her horse on it. I also found the card to match. I believe they were created for me to give to my granddaughter for her birthday next week. Thanks to the wonderful designers you have for the always spot on pieces.

I am 56 years old, in my life time I will lose more animals than I want to go back and count, I know that they cannot live the long lives we do. So many special cats, birds, dogs, turtles and horses have shared my life with me. In time they pass away, I know that I will see them again, because I believe there is no heaven without them. Horses do live longer than most of the other animals except certain birds. But ONE horse came into my life late, she was 11 when she came, she taught me everything about horses and life in the time she was with me. I learned so much love and patience, trust and true partnership with her. We competed together in rides, trail rode, lots of lone walks in all the seasons. We swam together in lakes and streams, rode midnight moonlight rides. We took lessons together, jumped jumps, even went to an elementary school so the children could see a horse up close, she learned to pull a cart, walked home several loose horses. Time went on; she got older. I knew our time was precious, I treasured everyday with her, I swear this horse could understand every word I spoke to her. I told myself one day she would have to leave me, I tried to steel myself for her passing, the way I had to say goodbye forever to my treasured dogs, cats before her. That day came and went. I still think of her every day I am back at the barn or riding a horse; it makes me smile more now than have tears. This box is the quiet strength and peace she had that she gave me. Inside is a lock of her mane. She lived to a great age of 33, I will never forget her.

We are opening a SpiritHorse licensed facility, which will be helping special needs children reach their full potential through interaction with horses. SpiritHorse JC Ranch is licensed, and three of us are trained and now preparing for opening one of these centers to meet the needs of special needs kids, those abused and at risk, as well as helping the wounded warriors in south central Missouri. is the website of our parent company in Corinth, Texas. Charles Fletcher has developed methods with 27 steps, something new in the industry that is making even more of a difference. And it is bringing hope to many disabled children and adults. One in 110 are diagnosed with autism now. It is 1 in 83 in Missouri. His methods using horses have brought 23 severely autistic children half-way to a “non-autistic” rating in only six months. Amazing! This will be published in one of the Journal of Alternative Therapies in the May or June 2011 edition! At SpiritHorse this past year, the 70th child spoke their first word, the 49th child took their first steps to their pony, and the 35th child sat up for the first time at the last session in Corinth. It is amazing work which he is training others to do and duplicating at centers like ours, which is the 38th SpiritHorse center worldwide! I appreciate the beauty of my Willow Tree collection that depicts our life and look forward to seeing and having more in the future! I didn't know about the one with the horse as our stores don't have the full collection! I can hardly wait to get it!! I also love giving them as gifts. I always get a wonderful response! Susan, Thank you for sharing your gift so I can give wonderful gifts! ;) Tracy

I love horses and Willow Tree products. One of my boarder's horses died last spring and was cremated. I purchased the Quiet Moments Treasure Box for her horse's ashes. It didn't hold all of the ashes but it definitely held enough that she can keep her horse's ashes close to her beside. I also purchase the Quiet Moments Plaques for gifts for my boarders on their special occasions. Wonderful. Thank you for creating such beautiful pieces of art. Beverley
